Learning From Your Critical Inner Voice As A Life Coach

June 25th, 2014 | 19 comments

I’m delighted today to be hosting a guest post from Beautiful You Life Coach Libby Thompson. Libby is not only an incredible life coach, but a psychologist as well and recently she has become interested in the incredible role that self-compassion can play in our lives. She has been learning from the ‘Godmother’ of self-compassion based work, Kristen Neff, at a retreat, who is the best of the best in this field.  I love Libby’s post on how as life coaches we can harness the power of self-compassion in our lives more.  You can connect in with Libby further and her wonderful work at All You Can Be Psychology.  We all have it. (Yes!  Even as a life coach who is trying to ‘help’ people be their best and live an amazing life.) A critical self. That mean voice in your head that tells you that you are not good enough as a…

The Myth of Being Perfect as a Life Coach

May 21st, 2014 | 10 comments

I recently asked Beautiful You Coaching Academy subscribers…’How are you and what would you like me to write about?’ (The responses blew me away and it’s something I highly recommend you try sometime.  The people who subscribe to receive your updates are ‘real’ people.  They’re not just a number on your ‘list’ – they’re part of your business team.  Reach out to them and see what goodness unfolds.) One of the requests I received was to write about concerns someone had that to be a great life coach and help others with their life, you must have an amazingly great, (real meaning – perfect), life yourself.  You must be exemplary.  Incredible.  Beyond reproach.  Beyond outstanding. Well I should firstly be honest and say that I do believe that the best life coaches are indeed great people.  They have a passion for life, people, experiences and adventure.  They’re readers, developers, communicators and love learning….

Ten Amazing Things About Being A Life Coach

March 26th, 2014 | 5 comments

I have been a life coach and business coach for twelve years.  Yes – I trained to become a life coach way back when people were still scoffing at the thought that any sane person would pay money to see such a person.  Remember when we said the same thing about personal trainers? Indeed! Fact is, that coaching of all kinds – life coaching, business coaching, health coaching, executive coaching and more, is a vastly growing field.  We now live in a time where most people who are in the privileged position to truly think consciously about what they want their life to be about – want more.  People want to be the best they can be.  They want to give, grow, contribute and be guided by their spirit into a life that has meaning and purpose for them. And working with a life coach is just one of the…

Create Your Own Life Coaching Vision and Mission Statement

January 23rd, 2014 | 6 comments

Do you have a vision and mission statement for your life coaching business? You might be wondering why a vision or mission statement might be important to consider for your life coaching or small business or that they are only relevant to large companies – but they truly aren’t. If you are in the business of inspiring, supporting, and helping people be held to their highest dreams and the life they most want to live, then your work is steeped in vision and mission every day. And if you are a life coach or any type of coach – health, business, parenting, transformational or other, then I would think that you can find at least part of your life coaching work in that sentence.  And if you are helping others create their own vision of an incredible life and commit to the mission of attaining that – how about one…

Are You Playing Small as a Life Coach?

May 6th, 2013 | no comments

One of the things I see life coaches do far too often is play small. Sometimes really small. Despite the fact they may be amazing talented at being a life coach, brilliant at a particular skill, or radiant in certain circumstances, they water that talent down, hide their skill or dull their radiance. Deliberately. Why? Maybe you can tell me in a comment below, but I think it’s likely to be a myriad of reasons from things like not wanting to stand out too much, not wanting to draw critique or criticism, fear of getting torn down and yes, fear of getting lifted up too. It’s beyond beautifully true what Marianne Williamson said in her incredible book ‘A Return to Love.’ “Your playing small does not serve the world.” There is such truth in that. When you are playing small as a life coach something you could create that may…

Life Coaching Worksheet: A Day In My Beautiful Life

April 29th, 2013 | 3 comments

Whenever I have worked with clients for life coaching or business coaching, one of the things they most often want is to create a more beautiful, soulful and incredible life for themselves. They also often want to attain big, juicy and delicious goals while they’re at it – which can are amazing but can also feel more than a little overwhelming. As a life coach your role is to help people move through and even embrace that overwhelm, and one of the best ways to do that is by breaking things down into yummy bite sized chunks that can act as a platform for inspiration, change and yes – a more beautiful life. Here’s a Life Coaching Worksheet I’ve done personally and I often get my clients to do in thinking about their own perfect day. (Why not do it for yourself and see what it sparks inside you!) It’s…

Become An Amazing Life Coach Speaker

April 8th, 2013 | 15 comments

Let’s talk talking. Or in particular – public speaking.  Or even further to that, how you can be an amazing life coach speaker. Supposedly it’s a huge fear for many, many people and in fact I’m sure you’ve all heard that statistic floating about that states it’s actually the BIGGEST fear people have.  Like more than spiders. Or snakes.  Or death by fire. Now I’m willing to admit that I just do not get that, likely because a) I absolutely loathe snakes and b) I only now recognise how fortunate I was to have a teacher encourage me to use my voice in debating and public speaking competitions.  I know that Mr Campbell doing that saw me grow up having no fear of speaking in front of others like I know some do.  It’s a gift he gave me that has kept on giving to me all my life and…

How To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

March 14th, 2013 | no comments

I think it’s catching on. And spreading. And I’m seeing more and more people succumb to its negative charms and lure. What is it? Comparisonitis. The dis-ease of comparing yourself to others. Now this could be just comparing your body, size or shape to someone else. It may be your life coaching business. Your blog. Your husband, wife or partner. Your wardrobe. Your friends. Your personality. Your social life. Or it could be all of the above and your entire life rolled into one great big ‘why the hell can I never be like her or as good as that’ horror ball. Oh dear. I can hear you sighing and saying ‘Please get out of my head I can assure you that I’m not in your head but I’ve certainly had Comparisonitis before myself and do from time to time have to catch myself from ensuring I’m not being seductively…
